The Mysterious Adventures Of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

The Mysterious Adventures Of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is a children's mystery novel. It was published in 1995 by Puffin Classics. It has 4 stars on Goodreads. Here are my thoughts.
The Mysterious Adventures Of Sherlock Holmes is a collection of short stories about, well, the mysterious adventures of Sherlock Holmes. It's told from the admiring perspective of Sherlock's companion and confidante, Watson. He is trying to make known Sherlock's awesome skills of observation and deduction. Case after case features a motley crew of facts that has everyone else, including the reader, fumbling and somehow leads Sherlock to complete conviction in his solution.
The plot of The Mysterious Adventures Of Sherlock Holmes is predictable in the way that children's books often are. Sherlock gets the case, he talks it over with Watson, he goes out to investigate, he comes back with the answer. However, I didn't find this bothersome. While the progression was similar, the cases were unique and enjoyable to read about.
The main characters of The Mysterious Adventures Of Sherlock Holmes are Sherlock, Watson, and Lestrade. Sherlock is a reserved and cunning detective, world-renowned for his skills. Watson is practicing doctor with a family who helps Sherlock on several occasions. Lestrade is the chief police inspector who goes head to head with Sherlock on many cases. These characters aren't exactly relatable to children, but they're classic and endearing to the millions of fans of our beloved Sherlock Holmes.
The writing of The Mysterious Adventures Of Sherlock Holmes is simple. As a children's book, it wrestles some more serious topics but always with an air of detachment. The dialogue in this book is crucial, as some quotes stretch on for pages when someone is explaining a case.
In conclusion, I would give The Mysterious Adventures Of Sherlock Holmes 3 out of 5 stars. I liked Sherlock and Watson and their dynamic. I would have liked for more emotional depth in the story, however, I understand that this is a children's story and therefore is not expected to meet my reading level. I would recommend this book to people looking to read about friendship, suspense, and mystery.
